How it’s worked out
- First, what went out is subtracted from what came in: that’s what you keep.
- From what you keep, two percentages are set aside: one for taxes and one for a cushion in case a month is slow.
- What’s left is what you can pay yourself. If the month broke even or lost money, the calculator says so and doesn’t suggest taking money out.
FAQ
What percentage should I set aside for taxes?
It depends on your country and your situation. Many people start with 10% to 20%. Ask your accountant about your case.
What is the cushion for?
For bad months. Setting aside 10% each month lets you keep paying yourself when sales drop.
What if I have more than one business?
Use the multiple business profit calculator, or ProfitPeek, which does this every month for all your businesses.
